Three ways to elevate your staycation for Valentine's Day 2021
Sneaking out of town for a romantic weekend might not be possible right now, but that shouldn’t mean completely ignoring Valentine’s Day in 2021. With a little planning, it’s possible to create an unforgettable experience in your hometown – or even in your home – and celebrate love in all its guises.
Embrace your inner flâneur
Coined by 19th century poet Charles Baudelaire, the term flâneur refers to a particular type of city dweller, one who explores their metropolis on foot, while surreptitiously observing the intricacies of daily life. The flâneur relishes a slow pace, a keen eye and an absolutely purpose-less day of strolling, one in which the journey is truly more important than the destination. It goes without saying that all of these qualities are even better when they’re shared with someone special.
To embrace the flâneur’s modus operandi, seek out the streets you seldom take; turn left where you would normally veer right; and explore previously unseen sights and sounds. This way, you’ll begin to see your hometown with fresh eyes – even if it’s just for an afternoon.
Make a reservation
Booking a suite in a local hotel is the ultimate staycation indulgence but with the majority of us holidaying at home, local attractions will be in demand – so don’t delay making that reservation.
In Sydney, hotels don’t come newer or flashier than Crown Towers, which is perched right on Sydney Harbour. In LA, The Prosper Hollywood is old-fashioned glamour housed in an incredible Hollywood Regency-style building. And in Paris, the Hotel Providence is one of the city’s newest boutique hotels, with just 18 decadently-styled rooms and suites.

Scent your space
The right scent will always set the scene, so choose wisely. At home, look for something heady and exotic to immediately evoke the feeling of escape; a candle in Arabian Oud or No.352 Leather & Cedar will do nicely. For a hotel stay, slip a sleek travel candle into your overnight bag, or spritz a little Paradiso del Sole Room Spray to immediately refresh a room.
