WE KNOW THAT SUMMER IN AUSTRALIA is pretty special, but where does everyone in the Northern Hemisphere escape to for their Winter? Here's to balmy evenings, margaritas and an abundance of palm trees overhead.
EAT & DRINK // LA DOCENA
If oysters and seafood are your thing, then La Docena is the place to visit on your trip to Mexico. This hipster oyster bar has certainly found a loyal fanbase, so make a booking to avoid waiting in line. Wine, fresh oysters and a tuna tostada to end all tuna tostadas - go, go, go!
SEE // IK KIL CENOTE, YUCATAN
You've no doubt seen this little slice of heaven pop up on your social media feed. Ik Kil, located just outside Pisté, is a place of dreams - all crystal clear waters, vines draping from the rocky overhang and a number of excitable tourists waiting in line to dive into the water below.
STAY // HOTEL CARLOTA
Hotel Carlota is all about design and cuisine - two things, in our minds, that when done wrong can make or break a hotel. However, this is most certainly where Hotel Carlota exceeds expectations. With an entirely mirrored glass front facade, Hotel Carlota rests on the same turf that once belonged to Garden Amazonas Hotel (which at best gets a poor to average rating on TripAdvisor... a big old no-no). Thank goodness for Hotel Carlota in all her sparkling, modern glory - take a dip in the pool, order a cocktail and then settle into your beautiful room!
EAT & DRINK // THE INSOLITO
The Insolito is part of a collective comprising restaurants, bars and accomodation - The Independente Collective. At The Insolito you are treated to a mix of the most delicious cuisine, cocktails aplenty and astoundingly beautiful rooftop views of the old town and the river Tagus. It's casual dining... at least in comparison to sister restaurant, The Decadente! If you can bag a table at either one, we know you will be in for an incredible evening.
SEE // A VIDA PORTUGUESA
See... or should we say, shop? A Vida Portuguesa is history made good. The team at this incredible store (museum? sanctuary of old world charm?) have searched high and low for products and brands that have retained their original packaging, owing their longevity on the market to quality! Books, textiles, jewellery, stationery and beauty products - make like a tourist and get all of your shopping done in one fell swoop!
STAY // AREIAS DO SEIXCO CHARM HOTEL
This incredible hotel is the epitome of luxury. The vision of owners Marta and Gonçalo, Areias Do Seixco Charm Hotel, is everything you could possibly want from a vacation to get away from it all. The trickiest part about staying at Areias Do Seixco Charm Hotel is that there is a very grave possibility you won't want to leave... ever. Take a dip in the tub or private pool and relish in the fact that you are now holiday and that's all you have to think about! Did we mention that the sand dunes and ocean are at your doorstep?
EAT & DRINK // LE 1947
It comes as no surprise that the Maldives is known as the 'Sunny Side of Life' - the cuisine, the accomodation... each and every experience positively exudes pure bliss. Le 1947, located on site at Cheval Blanc Randheli, is a delicate 9-course French culinary experience. While the cuisine is most certainly French, the setting is 100% tropical Maldives!
SEE // DIVING OFF RANDHELI
Whether you're a first timer or a diving virtuoso, the world that exists in the ocean below won't cease to amaze each and every time. Think: turtles, manta rays, pinecone soldierfish - all just waiting to be explored. Rest assured, you dive with an expert, so if the deep blue has you a little unnerved... it's time to shake it off - this is a once in a lifetime experience!
STAY // CHEVAL BLANC RANDHELI
Post diving, snorkelling and generally indulging each and every sense possible, rest and relax by the pool at Cheval Blanc Randheli before retiring to your villa. Yes - that pontoon over the lagoon is yours. Yes, that is the great Indian Ocean expanse in front of you.
