At Home with Amethy Huang

Amethy HuangIn Guangzhou, China, Amethy Huang is as well-connected as they come. Known for her innate sense of style, she and her husband Andrew are also co-owners of some of the city’s hottest nightspots, including the speakeasy-style Hope & Sesame, the cafe-bistro Charlie’s, and the recently opened cocktail bar, Bar Sān Yŏu. So it’s understandable that her own home – which the couple has occupied for only a matter of months – is a place where she can truly relax and feel at ease.

“It’s neutral and cosy, very comfortable,” she says of her interior style, which marries a chic colour palette with bespoke details. “My favourite thing is our sofa, which was custom-made  into our ideal size. It’s an L-shape with back support – perfect to invite a few friends over to hang out.”

To complement this inviting style, Huang says she gravitates towards warm and calming fragrances, such as Cuban Tobacco. We asked her to share some of her other scent and style secrets.

What’s the best thing about living in Guangzhou?

It is a city with Cantonese culture and a lot of history. People are friendly and not too pretentious. It’s also where I am from and where I grew up

How do you like to use scent in your home?

I don’t have a fixed scent, it’s really up to my mood to pick whatever I feel like at that moment. At this moment I am lighting the LUMIRA Persian Rose Candle, because it’s spring time! However, I use different scents for different rooms – in the bedroom I would prefer something more calming like Arabian Oud. I also like Cuban Tobacco during winter. It’s slightly masculine and provides a warm smell, which goes very well with our cosy interior style.

When do you like to use them?

Anytime, I like candles the most. I love to have some fire flickering at home.

What are you most looking forward to for the coming year?

This year, we’ll keep focusing on expansion, to open more shops across the country. And as an influencer, I’ll keep sharing a good life.
