Perfume That Smells Like a Place: A LUMIRA Scent Map

LUMIRA Sun Soaked Parfum Mallorca Spain

If you want a perfume that smells like Mallorca, start with Sun Soaked: green pear and pink pepper, then honeysuckle and peony, settling into musk and cedarwood. Every LUMIRA Eau de Parfum is built the same way, around a place where a feeling was found, from Old Havana to Tokyo after dark, and most can be tried in a 2ml vial for $8.

Here's our scent map: five places, the notes that carry them, and the moment each one is made for.

What does a perfume that smells like a place smell like?

Not a postcard. A place-led perfume holds the materials and the hour you remember: warm stone, fruit cut in the shade, smoke from a bar that never closes. You don't wear it to look like a traveller. You wear it for the feeling you found there, and you take that feeling into an ordinary Tuesday. That's the point.

LUMIRA sorts its perfumes into four moments: Begin, Open, Stay and Return. Each scent below sits in one of them, so you can choose by place or by the part of the day you want to change.

Which perfume smells like Mallorca?

Sun Soaked was found in Mallorca: stone fincas, olive groves, a sea too bright to look at. It opens with green pear, green grape, strawberry, blackcurrant and pink pepper. The heart is honeysuckle, peony, rose and lily of the valley, and the base is musk and cedarwood that stay with you into the evening.

It belongs to Open, for the day you let yourself want more. Two sprays at the wrists before you step outside, one more at the nape of the neck when the afternoon slows. Created with perfumer Florian Gallo, Sun Soaked was named Best Fragrance, Pure Beauty Global Awards 2025. It also comes as a travel set ($89), a 10ml in a leather travel case.

Which perfume smells like Old Havana?

Cuban Tobacco was found in Old Havana, in a bar where nobody checks the time. Cardamom, clove bud and tangerine strike first, warm as a lit match. A clean floral heart follows, then mahogany, patchouli, musk, vanilla and tobacco, smoky and close to the skin.

It's a Return scent, for the evening you put the day down. Close the laptop, two sprays at the wrists and the nape of the neck. Perfumer Rebecca Akhyani built it, and it's our most requested fragrance. If tobacco is new to you, our guide What Is a Tobacco Perfume? explains how it wears.

Which perfume smells like Tokyo at night?

Neon Moon is a portrait of Tokyo after dark, made with perfumer Frank Voelkl: the pull between neon light and the quiet backstreets behind it. Apricot blossom, pink pepper and violet leaf come first. Jasmine, honeysuckle, rosewood and black tea sit in the heart, and white amber, sandalwood and cedarwood settle into a skin-like glow.

It's a Return scent too, but for the night that's only beginning. A spray at the wrists as you leave the office carries it from day into the evening. Listen to the city it came from in Sounds of Tokyo.

Which perfume smells like a Sydney summer?

Soléor is golden hour, bottled, and it comes from closest to home: memories of growing up with Sydney summers and the glow of sun-warmed skin. Amber, cedarwood and candied fruit open into caramel, oak moss and akigalawood, then vanilla, tonka and labdanum.

Soléor sits in Stay, for the late light you don't want to rush. Perfumer Gaël Montero made it with us; the story is in The Making of Soléor.

Which perfume smells like Marrakech after dark?

Desert Nights holds the stillness of Marrakech after sunset: warm desert wind, lanterns, the leather stalls of the souk. Saffron and honey open it. Leather, jasmine and Moroccan cedarwood follow, and sandalwood, patchouli, labdanum and moss deepen it for the cooler nights you'll want to remember. It's another Return scent by Rebecca Akhyani. Wear it late.

How do you choose a place you haven't been?

Choose the moment first. It's easier than it sounds. Mornings and new starts lean to Begin, bright days to Open, late light to Stay, and evenings to Return. Then let the notes decide: fruit and flowers for Sun Soaked, spice and smoke for Cuban Tobacco, tea and amber for Neon Moon.

If you'd rather travel through several, The Departure Set holds four places in 10ml (Sun Soaked, Neon Moon, Cuban Tobacco and Noir d'Oud). The Parfum Discovery Set holds eight in 2ml, so you can wear each one for a day before you choose. Or browse every place in our perfume collection.
